Stop Unwanted Phone Calls by Registering Your Preference

Are you fed up of the growing menace of unsolicited telephone calls? Now TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has recently issued some regulations for the hi-end customers with the prime objective to ensure them not to get any promotional nature of commercial communications unless they opt for receiving them. So you can block these unsolicited phone calls by registering your preference with your current service provider by sending text messages. For blocking these pesky calls, there are two choices for you – fully blocked category and partially blocked category.

Unwanted Phone Calls

If you have already registered your cell number with NDNC, you need not register your number again. You will come under fully blocked (no telemarketing calls/SMS) category. In this case, you can change your preference.
Procedure to Register/change Your Preference
You can register your preference by two ways.
Through Voice Call
If you want to register/change your preference, you can do by calling at toll free number 1909. When you dial this phone number, you will be prompted to register your preference via customer care executive or through IVRS (Interactive Voice Response System).
By Sending SMS
You can also register your preference for unsolicited calls by sending a text message to 1909. In this regard, if you are opting for fully block category, you should send SMS “START 0” to 1909. In other case, you should send message “START <option> to 1909. For e.g. if you want to receive messages from Education, then you should send your message in the format “START 3” to 1909. For multiple options, you can send message in format “START 2, 3” to 1909 if you want calls and messages from real estate and education. If you want to change your preference, you can send text message to 1909 in the format “STOP <option>” whatever your preference is. For your convenience, I have also provided list of options.

UPC (Unique porting Code) is Mandatory for MNP Process

In across the country, the service of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) has started from 20th Jan 2011. If you want get benefit from this great service, you must have to get firstly the Unique Porting Code (UPC).  To get this unique number, just send one simple text message from your mobile writing PORT (Your Cell Number) at 1900. When you send SMS to that number, you will immediately receive your UPC from 1901 number.
Basically, UPC (Unique Porting Code) consists of eight characters wherein first two characters specify the name and service area code of the service provider. For e.g. if the first two characters of the code is RD then it specifies a Reliance (R), Delhi (D) number and besides, the remaining six characters will be 1 to 9, A-N & P-Z only and small letters. Moreover, the alphabet ‘O’ will never be permitted in the Unique Porting Code.

Please note one thing that the word ‘PORT’ followed by a space followed by the ten digit mobile number which is to be ported should be case insensitive. For instance, you can’t write port for Port in the message. Furthermore, if the Subscriber’s Caller Line Identification does not match with the ten digit mobile number, no Unique Porting Code will be allotted to the customer. However, he will get a message on the mobile that the Caller Line Identification (CLI) does not match with his cell number.
