Why Laptop Battery reduce backup time and how it improve..

Laptops have become an essential part of our daily lives as they are easy to carry from one place to another. As well, we can also work on it approx. 2-3 hours without charging even if the light is turned off.  When we purchase a brand new laptop, the battery of laptop works very good approximately 2-3 hours after charging. But after using 6 to 12 months, what happens? It comes to 30 minutes merely.  Many of laptop companies claim that their laptops can have 4 to 6 hours of battery life. But actually, backup time totally depends upon your usage of laptop, usage of USB based gadgets on laptops. There are some valuable tips for you on how can you increase your laptop battery life.

Reasons of reducing battery backup:
Sometimes the charging of the charger may not be correct. May be it is faster or slow. We can check it.
1. If your battery does not charge in 1 or 2 hours, then please Check whether your battery is over heat or not.
2. If your laptop battery becomes too hot that can not be touched by you, then you should need to remove the battery immediately and allow it to cool off. If it repeats regularly then your battery or charger may be defective.
3. Usually we ignore this battery overheat problem, but that is the main reason that battery backup suddenly reduce in 30 or 20 minutes.
4. Overcharging: Over charging occurs when the charger keeps the battery at a temperature that is warm to touch (body temperature) while in ready condition.

Now a days, most of the batteries come equipped with Li-Ion battery. These batteries have built-in controller chips which can prevent from overcharging, as they can explode if overcharged. Overcharging does not affect the life span other than potentially destroying the battery.

A Lithium-ion battery may be damaged by extensive overcharging (continuously on a charger for more than 24 hours). Damage to the battery from overcharging would only occur in the very unlikely event of a malfunction of the charging system.
Still we should not connect charge with laptop more than 2 Hours. When laptop battery shows full, then you should remove the charger immediately for better battery performance.
How to increase Laptop Battery Life? Some Points should be remember to better battery backup and performance:-

1. Low your Laptop’s Brightness
Many laptops allow you to reduce the brightness of laptop. To dim the screen brightness, click on the battery icon right hand side in the system tray and after that, click on “Adjust screen brightness.” But lowering the brightness of the screen, you can save your laptop battery.
2. Defragment Your System Regularly
If you’re using Windows 7, Vista or XP operating system, then these systems have built in defragmenter in the control panel. This feature of OS is very helpful in improving the efficiency of the hard drive.  So if you do regularly defragmentation, it will help hard drive to arrange data with efficiency.  As the result, your laptop’s hard drive will have to do less work for accessing the data.
3. Turn off the Screensaver
If you really want to maximize your system’s battery life, you should switch off the screensaver as soon as possible. In real, screensavers use CPU (Central Processing Unit) when you’re not using it.
5. Switch off Wireless and Bluetooth
Turn on wireless and Bluetooth unnecessarily may drain the battery of your laptop. So if you disable these hard wares, they may save the power of your battery.
4. Remove the battery for an Extended Time Period
When your laptop is not in use for an extended period of time it is best to remove the battery. The battery will continue to slowly discharge during the time it is not in use. If this discharge takes place inside the laptop you may not be able to get your laptop to recognize the battery the next time it is recharged.

5. Unplug USB Devices

As we know that USB devices like Wi-Fi, PC cards, External mouse, external speakers, Bluetooth etc. are the biggest drainers of laptop battery power. So an individual should unplug them all when they are not in use.

6. Keep Empty your DVD or CD drive when no uses.
7. Hibernate is better than sleep mode, because I sleep mode memory remains active, but in hibernate mode computer save current page or state.
8. Increase Your Laptop’s RAM
By increasing laptop’s RAM, you can reduce the load of Virtual memory residing on the hard disk. By doing so, you not only increase the life of battery, you will find your laptop run more smoothly. However, an extra bit of RAM uses more power, but it will increase the overall savings by short cutting access to give power hungry hard disk drive.
Above and beyond, keep clean your laptop’s battery with a cloth moistened by rubbing alcohol.  It will keep the transfer of battery’s power more efficiently. Use hibernate function instead of using standby mode. Close all unnecessary programs by right clicking on the program and select close. Otherwise, you can press “CTRL+ALT+DEL” and then end up unnecessary tasks. Hope these tips will help you to increase your laptop battery.

WiMax Vs. Wi -Fi Technology: Which is the best?

WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access that is based on the Wireless MAN (IEEE 802.16) standard. It is a telecommunications technology providing wireless data over long distances in a variety of ways, from point-to-point links to full mobile cellular type access.

This technology is highly scalable, long-range system and covering many kilometers using licensed spectrum to deliver a point-to-point connection to the Internet from an ISP to an end user. WiMAX can be used to provide a wireless alternative to cable and DSL for broadband access, and to provide high-speed data and telecommunications services. WiMAX can also be used to connect many Wi-Fi hotspots with each other and also to other parts of the Internet.

When using WiMAX device with directional antennas with the speed of 10 Mbit/s at 10 km distance is possible, while for WiMAX devices with omni-directional antennas only 10 Mbit/s over 2 km is possible. There is no uniform global licensed spectrum for WiMAX, although three licensed spectrum profiles are being used generally i.e. 2.3 GHz, 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz.

With WiMAX enabled handsets and laptops coming into the market, people could connect to the fast broadband internet from anywhere, without having to depend on the slow rate mobile network data transfer. You can also work on broadband, call your friends and colleagues and watch real-time TV from the top of a forest hill station many kilometers away from the access point without compromising in the quality, speed or screen size.

WiMAX could connect remote Indian villages to the Internet using broadband. This technology would avoid hassles in cabling through the forests and other difficult terrain only to reach a few people in remote places. Maintenance of these systems is very easy. WiMAX provides Internet access, voice and IPTV to those areas.

Simply put, if WiMAX provides services analogous to a cell phone, Wi-Fi is more analogous to a cordless phone. Wi-Fi is a shorter range system, typically hundreds of meters and used by an end user to access their own network. Wi-Fi is low cost and allows the user to provide Internet access within a single room or building. For instance, many coffee shops, hotels, railway stations and bus stations contain Wi-Fi access points providing access to the Internet for its customers.

Wireless Routers incorporate a DSL-modem or a cable-modem and a Wi-Fi access point, often set up in homes to provide Internet-access and inter-networking to all devices connected without using any wire or by cable. An individual can also connect Wi-Fi devices in ad-hoc mode for client-to-client connections without a router. Wi-Fi allows LANs to be deployed without cabling for client devices, typically reducing the costs of network deployment and expansion. Wireless network adapters are also built into most modern laptops.

For instance, if you have a BSNL DataOne broadband Wireless DSL modem at home, you can freely work with Wi-Fi enabled laptop anywhere in my home or even from its premises.

3G technologies: Reviews, Faqs and Difference between 2G Vs. 3G Networks

With the launch of 3G services, everybody wants to know about these services. How can they change the way that we communicate? 3G (third generation) services not only allow us to access Internet at high speed but they also enable us to enjoy multimedia services, the ability to view videos on our mobile phone.
If we compare with a dial-up Internet connection, it typically offers about 56 kbps speed. Whereas a 3G connection will offer you speed of 3.1 megabits per second (mbps) or more. 3G network – an ITU specification for third generation of mobile communications technology- was first introduced by Japan on a large commercial scale. At present, there are around 60 3G networks across 25 countries.

3G technologies comprise of three technologies – WAP, GPRS and EDGE. WAP (Wireless Application Protocol), an open international standard, is usually used for small mobiles. After the launch of WAP, GPRS was developed offering the speed around 56-114 kbps. It allows the user to avail services like GPRS, PTT, instant messaging/chat facilities, MMS etc. However, it fails to stream live videos more efficiently. After that, EDGE, also termed as 2.75G network, comes in the field of mobile communication. It can carry a bandwidth of up to 236.8 kbps.
With 3G Services, an individual can enjoy a lot of features such as:
  • Phone calls/fax
  • Send/receive large email messages
  • High-speed Web
  • Global roaming
  • Navigation/maps
  • TV streaming
  • Videoconferencing
  • Electronic agenda meeting reminder
Difference between 2G Vs. 3G Networks-
With HSDPA, 3G technology sends data many times faster as compared to 2G network. Therefore, if you’re planning to purchase a new mobile, you should for HSDPA compatibility as it will provide you the data speed on the move.   That means, in 3G coverage areas, you can send and receive video content along with audio, graphics and text. However, the speed of network depends upon mobile used, number of users using 3G network simultaneously, coverage and network traffic.

Cost of 3G services-
Definitely, 3G services may have some high price tag as compared to 2G. Because these services will allow you to make video calling whereas 2G will enable you to make voice call. So cost may be high in 3G.

Some Faqs about 3G Services-

1. Do I need to Change your SIM or number for enjoying 3G Services?
No, you need not change either your sim or change your number to enjoy 3G services.
2. Which operators in which circle will provide 3G Services?
Andhra Pradesh: Bharti Airtel, Idea, Aircel
Assam: Reliance, Bharti, Aircel
Bihar & Jharkhand: Stel, Bharti, Reliance, Aircel
Delhi & NCR: Vodafone, Bharti, Reliance Communications
Gujarat: Tata Com, Vodafone, Idea
Haryana: Idea Cellular, Tata Telecommunications, Vodafone
Himachal Pradesh: Bharti, Stel, Idea cellular, Reliance
Jammu & Kashmir: Idea, Aircel, Bharti, Reliance
Karnataka: Tata Telecommunication, Aircel, Bharti Airtel
Kerala: Idea cellular, Tata Telecommunications, Aircel
Kolkata: Vodafone, Aircel, Reliance Communications
Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh: Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, Tata Telecommunications
Maharashtra & Goa: Tata Com, Idea cellular, Vodafone
Mumbai: Reliance, Vodafone, Bharti Airtel
North East: Aircel, Bharti, Reliance
Orissa: Stel, Aircel, Reliance
Punjab: Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, Tata Telecommunications, Aircel
Rajasthan: Reliance Communications, Bharti, Tata Telecommunications
Tamil Nadu: Bharti, Vodafone, Aircel
U.P (East): Aircel, Idea Cellular, Vodafone
U.P. (West): Bharti, Idea Cellular, Tata Telecommunications
West Bengal: Bharti, Reliance Telecom, Vodafone, Aircel

3. What are the requirements for mobile broadband?
You will be able to enjoy High speed internet and data service even while on the move. You require a 3G handset and subscription for 3G services to use mobile broadband on your handset. In case, you want to connect your laptop or PDA (personal digital assistant) to 3G network, like while moving in a vehicle, you will require to connect your 3G handset to the computer through data cable, infrared or blue tooth. You may also buy a 3G data card and use the same with your computer to access high speed 3G network.

4. How much data will I use while viewing video?
If you’re downloading a video that’s meant for a mobile screen, 1mb per minute is a good rule of thumb. Using this rule, a 4 minute video clip would use around 4MB of your daily or monthly allowance. If the video was meant for a TV or PC Screen, or it is over 5 min long, we would not recommend downloading it to your phone, as it may struggle to play it back And you may not have enough storage space on your phone. A better solution for your mobile is to stream the Video.

5. Can I get 3G broadband without plugging a USB modem or data card?
Yes, 3G broadband can be accessed through Handset supporting 3G.

6. What will happen if I am out of 3G coverage area?
You will continue to access 2G/2.5G services in areas where 3G coverage is absent. Please ensure that your network setting on handset is on dual mode.

7. What are the prerequisites for experiencing 3G?
3G can be experienced with 3G connection and 3G compatible mobile handset in 3G covered areas.
