Tata Photon+ Vs. Reliance Netconnect : Check Out The Nation wide Survey

The High Speed Data Card technology also known as HSD rolls out under the flagship of Tata Indicom and Reliance. Data card, we can say, is any removable computer component that is approximately the size of a credit card. This data card stores data as well as it also contains nonvolatile memory to which data can be written and from which data can be recovered.

Reliance has recently launched the ultimate data card i.e. Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ that brings various advantages for its end users. Some of its great features are wireless broadband for laptop and desktop, 20 times faster along with the speed up to 3.1 Mbps, fastest uploads with a high speed of up to 1.8 Mbps and much more. This data card also provides fastest uploads at the speed of up to 1.8 Mbps. It is optimized for running rich media, heavy applications for e.g. video conferencing, video streaming, electronic surveillance, online multi-player gaming and heavy file transfers. On the other hand, Tata Photon Plus is a new Mobile Broadband Service that offers a great mobile Internet connectivity solution. This broadband service allows its user to access Internet at the super fast speed by using new USB modem. The speed of Tata Photon Plus is up to 3.1. Mbps Downlink speed. This service is also compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista.

Netconnect vs. Photon

One of the many ‘national’ experiments we will conduct is a coverage and speed contest between wireless broadband providers.
Naman will use the Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ and Alok will test the Tata Photon+. We will use the speed test tool available at Dslreports to check for speed.  The single transfer speed-test probes for maximum line speed, both upload and download. Almost everyday you will see images like the one below.

This is the result of a speed test conducted from Naman’s residence in south Mumbai. The download speed (in green) is 357 Kbps and the upload speed (in red) is 120 Kbps.
For network strength, we will rely on the service provider’s estimate indicated by the number of bars.

This is a first for India. Nobody has tested 2 national wireless internet service providers as comprehensively as this.
